Run this application for a more stable Mac. (Hold down the option key when launching the application.)
Background

For many months, my Mac had been crashing once or twice a day, usually when I was closing an app, or using the Application menu to bring another app into the foreground. I posted email about this to comp.sys.mac.programmer.misc, and got a very valuable reply back from Troy Gaul, of Apple.

I checked many apps, and found purgeable WDEFs in the following applications:
-Microsoft Word 6
-Microsoft Excel 5
-Stuffit Engine
-Stuffit Lite
-Claris Organizer 1.0
-Compuserve Information Manager
I used Resorcerer to make those WDEFs non-purgeable. The crashes stopped.
Others have found purgeable WDEFs in the following applications:
-Lotus ccMail 3.0
-Lotus Notes 4.1a
-Photoshop 3.0.5
...and many others.
What This Application Does

Peter N. Lewis supplied this application. It will scan your hard drive for purgeable WDEFs, and make them non-purgeable. Be sure to hold down the option key when launching the application in order to fix the WDEFs - otherwise it will just find and report any purgeable WDEFs to you.
